Number of the Week: 19

A field of hundreds of American flags. Commemorating veteran's day, memorial day or 9/11.

By Maddie Neider

Last week we celebrated our Nation’s independence. If you were in Boston, perhaps you found yourself watching the firework display from the Esplanade or maybe, like me, you were a bit outside of the city with family and friends beachside. No matter where you were, I think it is safe to say that we all felt a little bit more red, white and blue last Monday. Right?

Well, the latest FOX News poll paints a slightly different picture
Released right around the Holiday, voters were asked whether or not they are proud of the country today- only half responded that they are. This is a 19 percentage point drop from the 69 percent of voters who responded favorably to the same question in 2011.

Further, the poll also asked voters whether or not they believe that our Founding Fathers would be proud of the country if they could see it today; only a mere 19 percent responded that they would be.
During any time of the year these percentages would be startling, exposing meaningful insights into the hearts and minds of our fellow Americans. Yet, these findings seem to take on an even greater significance as they were gathered during the time of year reserved for feeling precisely the most American, the proudest.
